NOTES FOR AUDITIONING FAMILIES
  • All campers and teens will be cast in the show(s). Kids enrolled in Mindsteward Kids Theater Onstage Camp who do not audition will be cast in the ensemble(s).
  • It does not need to be a perfect audition.
  • All that the actors need to do is their best. We are looking for potential to grow.
  • We will provide a recorded accompaniment for the songs, the same recording as the karaoke music files linked above.
  • Pick out a role, get friends and family to read the parts in the script together, and HAVE FUN!

We specialize in the first audition:

  • Throughout the past 8 years, many of our auditionees have had their first theater audition with us.  Auditioning is a skill to be practiced. After training in our programs for several years, even campers who have had nerve-wracking "first" auditions have practiced year after year, and many have continued on to audition and perform, landing good roles in their schools, community, and professional theaters.
  • Auditions can be nerve-wracking! We create a calm and encouraging environment.
  • Directors Dena McKell and Teresa Lee are extremely skilled at shaping their artistic vision for these shows. They are also exceptional educators and will cast the shows accordingly. We stand behind our directors and trust their expertise in casting.
  • The teen show, Guys and Dolls Jr., is a theater intensive experience. All performers are expected to be "off book" by the start of camp. There will be additional rehearsal opportunities in early June.

What can you do at home?

  • We'd like to encourage parents and caregivers to provide consistent and clear positive feedback in the home.
  • Kids can practice their audition songs for friends, family, and local assisted living homes. Make it fun!
  • Putting worth and value in the grandeur of a role can cause undue stress on a child and we do not encourage this style of training in any of our programming.
  • Not every show is "your show," meaning that even the best actor or actress will not win a lead in every show.

Almost done. Where should we send the confirmation?
